Halloween Halloween. The spookiest night of the year! Filled with goblins, ghosts, and ghouls running amok! Pumpkins lighting up sidewalks, candy being given to kids (and some adults) in costume. The holiday itself has it’s origins in the ancient holiday of Samhain. Regarded as some to be the night when the veil between the worlds is at it’s thinnest, allowing spirits to cross over and return to earth for one night. It marks the end of the harvest season and the celebration of ones ancestors. Over the centuries, Samhain merged with the Christian All Hallows’ Day on November 1st, with All Hallows’ Eve celebrated on the 31st. The original carving of turnips has turned into pumpkins to ward off evil spirits, trick-or-treating, and dressing up in costume to disguise oneself to fool spirits. The popularity of the holiday has grown over the last few decades – and there is now a dedicated spooky season for the whole month of October.
